- Skill versus chance is not the deciding line under this Act. Older state-level debates about whether rummy qualified as a "game of skill" do not protect real-money rummy under the new central law.
- Online social games are not banned. Apps that offer only free, no-stake play fall outside the prohibition.
- Esports are treated separately and are regulated under a different framework, not by this Act.
Penalties under the Act target operators running unauthorised real-money platforms, and banks and payment channels can be directed to block related transactions. Players are not the focus of enforcement, but recovering balances depends on the operator acting on its existing duty to settle player accounts.
Which platforms stopped real-money play
The major India-facing rummy sites and apps have publicly suspended cash games since the ban. As of late 2025, this includes:
